Wat'cha Gonna Do?

Out on the water I find inspiration in many things.  The beauty of nature; the serenity of the water; the deep abyss that is my mind; and then, and then their is music.  Last week I discovered song on my little Nano that really got me thinking.  Thinking so much, that I started writing things on my boat.  Things that inspire me or things that just make me think.

The song, I think by Carrie Underwood, speaks about how we  are all confronted with opportunities to make a difference, to change someone's life.  It could be the woman on the street corner, looking for a helping hand.  It could be those commercials where you give  a few dollars a month and you feed a hungry child in Africa.  The song then presents a challenge to the listener, 'watcha gonna do'?  Will you stop, take time to meet that person and get to know them.  Give them the spare sticky change on your floor board, or, will you drive on, thinking it is a scam or that someone else will do the good deed.

This song is so powerful to me that I wrote some words from it on my boat, very large, so that not only do I look at it every day, but also in hopes that people I meet, those that are curious and looking at this scragly guy with writing all over his kayak, will initiate a conversation.  Will those words, scribbled on an Orange Kayak with a marker, read by some random person, make a difference.  Can those words inspire me and you and others, 'To Make a Difference'.

I will tell you that I wake up every day now and think about this.  I paddle every day and think about this.  How if all of us simply decided to answer the question instead of just asking  it, wow, what a powerful thing that would be.  I know that all too often we are bogged down in thinking about the path to reach some result.  I would even surmise, that we are so focused on trying to figure out the path that often we never even get started?

So, for all of you back in cities and towns with so many people in need.  I say put away your skepticism, and simply do.  Simply give them the loose change in your pocket and ask them their name.  Maybe even take the time to hear their story, ask a few questions, show them some Love and Compassion.  The power to make these changes lies within each of us.  Simply open your heart and the rest will come flowing out.

So, Watcha Gonna Do to Change the World?
