I have had the immense pleasure of staying and resting in Lewes Delaware the last 5 days.  After paddling from Key West FL to Lewes, my tired body was in need of some fantastic food and some leisurely rest.  I have been so amazed and am deeply appreciative of those that have offered me assistance.

Rick & Rachel helped me with my kayak, fed me and then put me up for a couple of days.  Cathy took a chance on someone she did not know and allowed my daughter and myself to stay with her for two days.  During this time she not only gave us warm beds to sleep in but entertained us with wonderful conversation and a couple of fantastic meals.

The local restaurant scene has been nothing short of amazing.  Cafe Azafran serves wonderful Mediterranean meals along with great coffee and strong Wifi.  Half full has some of the best pizza I have ever had and their triple chocolate brownie should be outlawed.  Their sister restaurant Kindle has amazing food as well along with the best Carrot Cake I have ever had.

For kayakers their is a dedicated boat launch with ramps and easy access that is only for kayaks.  I have paddled through alot of towns and never experienced that.  Here you have a safe place to launch your kayak and spend the day paddling through some beautiful marshes, canals, the bay or even the ocean.  The Dogfish Head beer company played a huge roll in making the ramp & launch a reality.

Speaking of Dogfish, wow, what can I say.  Not only is it a true american success story but they are simply amazing people with fantastic beers.  Folks that know me, know that I am not a huge beer drinker, but the glass I had was so good that it will definitely not be the last time I have a Dogfish Head brew.  Be sure and check out their beers, blog, and facebook pages where you can learn all about them, their brews and their spirits.

My intention was to head out into the Delaware Bay today, but the weather has turned nasty and I will spend one more night here, enjoying the locals and getting one last warm nights sleep.  I head up into the populated areas of NJ, NY, and Connecticut so if you are interested in helping me out as I move along, please drop me a note so we can connect.

Once again, a huge thanks to all of those wonderful people in Lewes DE that have made my stay so comfortable and memorable.
