Recommended Photography Gear

I have updated my recommended photography gear page to include my thoughts on the Black Rapid Strap system; the Manfrotto Table Top Tripod; and the new Sony NEX Zeiss 24mm 1.8 lens which is now readily available.  If you are shooting the NEX line of cameras this is almost a must have lens.  It is tack sharp with wonderful color rendition and smooth Zeiss brokeh.

It appears that the new Sony NEX-7, a camera that we have all been patiently waiting for, is due in stock next week.  Amazon is not accepting pre-orders as of yet, but when they do I will update my gear page.  This could be the 'ultimate' camera for the roving travel photographer, especially one concerned with travelling ultra light.  This camera paired with the new Zeiss 24mm lens, the Sony 16mm lens, and the upcoming 50mm lens would be a perfect light weight kit.  If you want just a bit more reach, then adding the 18-200 zoom gives you a single telephoto that covers a tremendous range in a single lens.  This is the lens that is paired with the Sony VG-20 video camera, so you are also getting a lens that shoots beautiful video and one that does not suffer from lens generated noise while zooming in or out.
